An Art Film byCasey Koyczan & Eric Wagliardo
Music by Casey Koyczan
Ha Ilé 2 is a convergence of place, the natural environment, and ancestry, reinterpreted through technology. Rooted in the traditions of First Nations heritage and the European diaspora, this project builds upon the collaboration between First Nations artist Casey Koyczan and U.S.-born artist Eric Wagliardo. Originally presented at the Dallas Museum of Art and multiple galleries, Ha Ilé 2 evolves the original concepts to include deep, downtempo ambient music and culminates in AI-generated video projections inspired by both artists’ visual work.
Blending the sacred with the technological, Ha Ilé 2 explores the resilience and humanity of diverse communities, examining how cultural heritage is preserved, adapted, and reimagined. This work honors the power of sound and light—not just as fleeting experiences but as vessels of ritual, introspection, and connection. It weaves together personal and collective memory while incorporating AI-generated interpretations, creating a dialogue between lived experience and synthetic perception.
In Casey’s dialect, Ha Ilé represents both past and future tense. The project seeks to remember the past, understand the present, and contemplate a future shaped by machine intelligence—an era in which AI remembers, hallucinates, and rewrites human experience, generating new memories from stories passed through generations.Ha Ilé 2 invites visitors to step inside, to engage with challenging concepts and memories, and to reconsider the nature of place—one that transcends the physical and emerges as a spiritual, temporal, and technological experience.
